Keyword Research

Keyword Research is a vital part of a strong internet marketing plan. Proper keyword research brings websites pay-per-click and search engine optimization (SEO) success. At its roots, keyword research is discovering which specific words real people, those potential clients and customers for whom we all jostle, are entering into their search engines to find websites such as yours. It is a never-ending task since language is forever evolving, and the words that may have brought visitors to your website one year, may be much less effective the next.
The three keys to effective keyword research are:
• Learn what words are driving people to sites such as yours
• Turn the knowledge of these words into action
• Analyze the effectiveness of your continuous keyword research: is it leading to actual online success?

Learning the Keywords

You have many keyword research tools from which to chose from to find out what words are working with online searches. For the most part the operate the same.

The most important part to performing quality keyword research is to use a variety of sources, valid starting keywords and your potential clients’ or customers’ point of view. At the same time, you need to remember to look for the less competitive words and phrases that your potential clients and customers are using.

Action

As you move forward with your keyword research plan, you will need to keep your website’s strength and online presence in mind. After all, using the most popular keywords to promote your site may not the smartest strategy if the top 10 companies in your field are already targeting those keywords. In that situation you need to target second or third tier keywords, where the competition is not nearly as top heavy. Following that method, your website can work its way up the keyword rungs until it is ready to target those top keywords that most web users type into search engines.

Analyze results

Determining the effectiveness of your keyword search strategy is the simplest step to the keyword research.

All you need to do is know how many impressions your search ad has generated over a specific period and how many of those impressions resulted in web users visiting your site. If, for example, for a 24-hour Saturday, your ad was generated 10,000 times, of which 200 people actually visited your site producing a profit of $400, you know that one visitor to your site is worth $2.00 ($400/200 visitors). You also know that you need to generate 50 impressions (10,000 impressions/200 visitors) of your search ad to generate that one $2.00 visitor.

All of this results data is very easy to mine once your website is up and running.
